craftconform

craftconform is a free web tool, in French, for makers of artisan soap and cosmetics. It composes the label the EU Cosmetics Regulation requires and gives you a print-ready PDF; the download asks for your email address. The 81 fragrance allergens of Regulation (EU) 2023/1545 are built in: the maker ticks the ones present.

Why we built it

Regulation (EU) 2023/1545 amended Annex III of the EU Cosmetics Regulation. The list of fragrance allergens that must be named on the label grew from 26 names to 81 entries. For an artisan soap maker, that means checking each essential oil and fragrance against a much longer list, and rewriting labels.

craftconform puts that list in one place, in French, next to the label you are writing.

What it does, exactly

The tool holds the consolidated list from Annex III of the Cosmetics Regulation, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2023/1545: 81 declarable entries, with their French names. You enter the product name, its type and its INCI ingredient list, then tick the fragrance allergens your product contains above the thresholds the page states (0.01 % for rinse-off products, 0.001 % for leave-on products). craftconform adds them to the ingredient list and shows the label as you type.

Before the PDF can be downloaded, the tool checks that the 7 mandatory mentions of article 19 (1) of the Cosmetics Regulation are filled in. It warns you if your ingredient list names one of the two fragrance allergens now banned, by its INCI name: Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde (HICC) or Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA). Where Annex III sets a further restriction for an allergen you tick, it shows that note.

What it does not do

craftconform does not read your recipe or compute concentrations: you know your formula, you tick what it contains. It does not apply the thresholds for you. It covers fragrance-allergen labelling only. Other limits of the Cosmetics Regulation, such as the other Annex III restrictions or the rules on colorants (Annex IV) and preservatives (Annex V), are outside its scope. We would rather state these limits than let a label look checked when it is not.

How it runs

The label is composed in your browser as you type. The PDF download asks for your email address, which is sent to our server and stored in a Cloudflare D1 database; the site runs on a Cloudflare Worker. The tool is free and in French, for makers of soap, solid shampoo, solid conditioner, liquid soap and balm.
